- Location (GPS co-ordinates if possible)
- What substrate it was growing on (e.g., rock, type of tree)
- Photograph if possible
The best thing to do to ensure these species persist is to maintain their habitat! Here are things you can do:
- If you own land with these species on it, keep the forest intact. Avoid the creation of large gaps (cut blocks, wider roads/trails) near the trees that have these lichens.
- Write or phone your MHA indicating support for the provincial Natural Area Systems Plan. This plan was developed to identify areas of important biodiversity in the province (including lichens) that should be protected.
- If you know of a local hotspot for lichen that you think should be protected, you can contact the members of the Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Advisory Council
- Support groups that promote habitat stewardship in the province, for example the Nature Conservancy Canada
